Mount Adatara

“That is Mt. Adatara, that shining is the Abukuma River.”

This is a passage from ‘Chieko-sho’, which I learned in elementary school. It’s a poem that introduces the beauty of her homeland to her husband.

Glittering mountain and river in a panoramic view. The contrast left a strong impression on me, but I think it was more of a poetic beauty than a real landscape.

The title photo, Mt. Adatara, was taken by myself a few years ago. There is still snow. This is not the remaining snow in spring, but the first snow that fell a few days before. It was the time when the autumn leaves are over. Our family was the only passenger on the lift. When we arrived at the upper station, there was snow that wasn’t at the foot of the mountain.

The snowy ground was slippery. Leaving my wife and mother, I went up the mountain trail alone and soon reached the wide summit of Mt. Yakushi. Adatara, the scenery in this photo suddenly opened in front of me. It was shining as the impression I had in my heart. I stood there for a while.

In the middle part of this song, I depicted the scenery of the lake area about 20Km west of Mt. Adatara. It was also the off-season, so we were able to see a quiet and mysterious view.

This song is played on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the bass strings at the same time, so the sound resonates well. It’s not a very difficult song, so I can play it as loud as I want. The sound echoes in my lungs, and it feels good. Where the pitch goes up and down, I could play with less movement fingering, but I intentionally play it back and forth between the 2nd and 9th frets to give the image of going up and down the mountain. This song is more of a fun song to play than to listen to.
