Ski Hike

Is skiing an adult sport or a child’s play for you?

The first time I skied was when I was an elementary school student. It was on the hill of a fishing village in Hokkaido where my grandmother lived. There were no lifts, so the kids had to climb the slope sideway with skis on. There were only so much height kids could climb in soft snow. When we were exhausted to climb, now it was time to slide down. Since we didn’t want to waste the effort of climbing, slid straight down in a sled-like form so as not to lose speed. It was a big slide made by nature.

The first time I went to ski resort was when I was a high school student. I was surprised that everyone came down the slope turning and turning. Why? Oh, I see. The lift climbs so high that they have to make turns to reduce the speed. What a luxury! And I was also surprised to find a ski school. We didn’t need a school to go down the slide.

Of course, skiing as an adult sport is an amazing spectacle. I’m looking forward to the exciting downhill at the Olympic Games starting this week. In Japan, downhill is less televised than jumping or cross-country. I hope Japanese athletes will be in the top ranks of alpine skiing so that the downhill will be broadcast more on TV.

Now I ride lifts and make turns. But for me, skiing has always been a child’s play. For those of us who grew up in Tokyo, snow itself is fun like a toy. That’s why this song is so childish. I haven’t been skiing for years, and when I found the title photo on the net, I was so happy that I started to write a song about ski. I wanted to make it a fun song to play.

This song seems to be difficult to play because the sound moves fast, but I made it so that the movement of the hands is small, so it’s not so difficult.

The melody at the end of this song was taken from Mt. Adatara. Reusing my own music is not plagiarism. It’s very useful. 🙂
