The View From Ruins

Not looking at the ruins. But looking out from the ruins. As if I were a resident there.
There must have been people who were proud of this architecture. Some of them might be nobles. What would be going through their minds if they could see this view today?
Is it emptiness at what has been lost? Memories of ordinary life? Of former glory days?
Or, it may be the relief that everything becomes flatter in the passage of time.
