Waltz of La Seine
Paris and Tokyo are similar.
Both have everything, but a hodgepodge.
Both are fashionable, but for whom?
Though saying I’m a Parisian
– Though saying I’m an Edokko,
But the city itself is a mishmash of people.
It seems to be changing all the time,
But it never changes over time.
People call it a big city,
But it’s only the town I was born.
Cheers!
Seeing the city changing,
Living unchanging life.

It has been more than 30 years since my wife and I went to Paris for our honeymoon. We looked for a cheap hotel, bought a map, and went to where we knew the names. The Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, and the Musée d’Orsay. Since we have come all the way to Paris, it’s only natural to enjoy such sightseeing.
But the view from the hotel window is not much different from Tokyo. There are many buildings, there are subway entrances, and the streets are full of shops.
We went to Fauchon to buy a nail clipper to cut my grown nails. We found a cafeteria late at night and ate a lot of French fries. Urban life is much the same everywhere, so it’s easier.
It was just a year ago that I decided to create a casual waltz on the theme of the city of Paris. I was looking for a good photo to bring out the song and found many photos of the Seine. Yes, the Seine. Since Tokyo doesn’t have a big river running through the city, it’s a little enviable.
The Seine, the water keeps flowing but the river never changes. Paris, the city keeps changing but the life never changes…
Composing the song while looking at those photos, it turned out to be a somewhat sentimental sound that was a little different from what I had originally intended.
While playing the flow of the Seine in arpeggio, I made four similar melodies that change nuances little by little. It’s a very easy song to play.
